Acute Onset of a Pre-Existing Condition - Up to Policy Maximum, $25,000, or $15,000 (depending on age)
Safe Travels Elite provides insured persons coverage for an acute onset of pre-existing conditions, which will be paid according to the plans Schedule of Benefits. To understand what an acute onset of a pre-existing condition is, you have to know what is considered a pre-existing condition.
Pre-existing Condition
“Pre-Existing Condition” means any Injury, illness, Sickness, disease, or other physical, medical, Mental or Nervous Disorder, condition or ailment that, with reasonable medical certainty, existed at the time of Application or at any time during the three (3) years prior to the Effective Date of Coverage, whether or not previously manifested, symptomatic or known, diagnosed, Treated, or disclosed to the Company prior to the Effective Date, and including any and all subsequent, chronic or recurring complications or consequences related thereto or resulting or arising therefrom.
Acute Onset of a Pre-Existing Condition
“Acute Onset of a Pre-Existing Condition” means a sudden and unexpected outbreak or recurrence that is of short duration, is rapidly progressive, and requires urgent medical care. A Pre-Existing Condition that is chronic or Congenital, or that gradually becomes worse over time is not an Acute Onset of a Pre-existing Condition. An Acute Onset of Pre-existing Condition does not include any condition for which, as of the Effective Date, the Covered Person (i) knew or reasonably foresaw he/she would receive, (ii) knew he/she should receive, (iii) had scheduled, or (iv) were told that he/she must or should receive, any medical care, drugs, or Treatment.
Acute onset of pre-existing condition coverage is available as follows per policy period*:
- ages up to and including 69: overall policy maximum selected at purchase
- 70-79: $25,000
- 80+: $15,000
*Exception for Cardiac disease and conditions:
- ages up to and including 69: Limited to $25,000
- ages 70+: $15,000
This benefit covers only one (1) Acute Onset episode of a Pre-Existing condition.
